”Today streaming a 3 minute video when roaming on you mobile phone in China will cost you between 400-1200 DKK. The present costs are too high and limit the use of digital services when abroad. Therefore, I am pleased that we are signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese government on the reduction of roaming prices.“
Danish and Chinese mobile operators will then sign a similar Memorandum of Understanding where the parties decide to negotiate to reduce roaming tariffs.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding the negotiation be-tween operators on lower tariffs should be concluded within six months after signing the agreement.

The Memorandum of Understanding is a document declaring intentions. The governments and mobile operators hereby decide to work towards lowering roaming tariffs between the two countries.
The Danish, Faroese and Greenlandic operators, 3, TDC, Telenor, Telia, Føroya Tele, TELEPOST together with the Chinese operators, China Tel-ecom, China Mobile and China Unicom, have stated that they will sign the Memorandum of Understanding and commence negotiations to lower roaming tariffs.
The negotiations will address wholesale roaming tariffs that operators pay to each other for the use of their networks. An agreement on lower wholesale tariffs will give operators an opportunity to lower retail roam-ing tariffs.
Currently, voice calls from China to Denmark cost more than 10 DKK per minute while data usage can cost more than 100 DKK per MB. In comparison the price for voice and data in the EU is below 2 DKK.
In the last year, a number of similar bilateral Memorandums of Under-standing have been signed by other countries.
